Dr. Cheng is a Board Certified Family Physician who has been in practice in Newport Beach for over 10 years. He is also the co-founder (with Dr. Jeffrey Barke) of Newport Medical Consultants-Personal Physicians, a limited enrollment private medical practice that has been designed to provide a higher level of service to a clientele of executives, business owners, professional athletes and similar individuals (and their families) who value their health as well as their time. Newport Medical Consultants-Personal Physicians focuses on optimizing the health of driven individuals who have achieved success in their professional lives but may not have been as proactive in their personal lives.
Dr. Cheng is also an Assistant Clinical Professor of Family Medicine at the University of California Irvine, School of Medicine, and an Assistant Clinical Professor of Physician Assistant Training at the Western University of Health Sciences. He is also an Editorial Board Member of Patient Care, a nationally recognized medical journal for family physicians and internists, and he is a frequent speaker to physicians on topics including obesity, fitness, thyroid disorders, and respiratory infections.
A native of Southern California, Dr. Cheng currently resides in Laguna Hills with his wife and two children. Having a strong commitment to giving back to the community, Dr. Cheng recently traveled to the Gulf Coast and provided medical relief to residents of Louisiana and Mississippi shortly after Hurricane Katrina. Currently he serves on the Board of Directors of the Child Guidance Center; an Orange County based non-profit organization that provides mental health counseling to disadvantaged children and their parents. He also is a Professional Services Reserve Officer for the Orange County Sheriff’s Department where he volunteers on the Search and Rescue Unit. Lastly, he is an active parent, volunteering as a Little League coach, soccer coach and lecturer on health issues at local elementary and intermediate schools. Dr. Cheng enjoys personal fitness, skiing, golf, tennis and travel with his family.
