RICHARD USHER, a principal in the firm of Furman Usher, Inc., is an attorney and business advisor with over 25 years of varied experience. His legal practice is focused on business transactions and corporate practices, and he also coaches executives and entrepreneurs on issues related to starting and growing businesses.
Mr. Usher uses his extensive legal and business experience to counsel and coach a variety of businesses as well as executives moving from the corporate world into entrepreneurship. He is known for providing pragmatic and understandable legal advice on complex issues and offering realistic solutions with a bottom-line orientation. His practice includes handling acquisitions, structuring and forming business entities, preparing business plans, assisting with financing documentation, advising franchisees, counseling on employment issues, negotiating contracts, leases and licenses, and managing general business transactions. He also acts as outside General Counsel to several businesses. His coaching practice is oriented towards helping entrepreneurs and executives succeed and thrive in their business life.
Mr. Usher began his legal career as a business litigation attorney with a major Los Angeles law firm. He subsequently spent over 10 years as General Counsel and senior corporate officer of Ultramar, Inc., a multi-billion dollar oil refiner and marketer. His corporate experience included managing legal, human resources, risk management, and environmental departments; serving on corporate Executive Committees; and handling a wide variety of business acquisitions and transactions.
Mr. Usher is a founding director and the Past President of the Professional Coaches and Mentors Association, a nonprofit organization for professional coaches working with businesses and executives.
He is a graduate of Miami University (Ohio) (B.A. Magnum Cum Laude) and the UCLA School of Law (Juris Doctor) and is a member of the California Bar. He lives in Laguna Niguel, CA with his wife, Dawn, a senior human resources executive.
