Bob Welch
Coach
Bob Welch is a principal of Eddy Associates, Inc. He has extensive consulting experience dealing with organizational change, executive career management, integrated performance management systems and human resources risk management. His assignments have been on behalf of companies varying in size from sales of $10 million to members of the Fortune 500, and on subjects ranging from labor relations to business ethics, from executive compensation to career management, from organization design to interim general management. He successfully founded and operated his own consulting firm, and was a senior vice president for executive coaching and outplacement at Right Management Consultants, as well as a Director of Professional Services for the Human Capital Consulting Group of Spherion Inc. In addition, he was a consultant for Ray & Berndtson, a major global retained executive search firm.
In corporate roles, Bob has most recently been the officer in charge of the human resources function at a $175 million pre-IPO telecommunications organization, focused on multimedia systems integration. There he was critical to the design and implementation of a new organization structure with clear accountabilities and increased focus on profit-and-loss in a previously top-line, sales-driven company; also, he was co-architect in building a coherent top executive team.
Previously, Bob became the most senior human resources officer at Mattel after joining the company as the lead executive for all international human resources activities in over twenty-five countries. Among his accountabilities were world-wide executive recruitment activities, and the development and maintenance of coherent compensation and benefit programs and practices. He counseled key executives on a global basis with respect to both local and international human resources management issues.
Bob has also held the top human resources positions at Ducommun Incorporated (then a Fortune 500 electronics distribution and aerospace firm) where he participated in the acquisition or divestiture of five companies, and at Davis-Walker Corporation (a privately-held steel specialty company), both headquartered in Southern California.
Bob began his career at General Electric, where he focused on labor relations in the durable goods, electronics and power distribution sectors. Thereafter, he joined TRW in their aerospace, defense and energy sector where, in his final position, he was responsible for all employee relations matters for an entity encompassing over 27,000 employees.
In addition to the human resources function, Bob has enjoyed positions as plant manager for a manufacturing operation, and general manager for a non-profit organization. He has also conducted courses at the graduate level dealing with employment law and business organization.
Bob is a graduate of The Pennsylvania State University, and a former U.S. Navy officer where he was a “frogman” and instructor specializing in explosives and nuclear weapons disposal. He completed his law degree at the University of Virginia, and was admitted to the Virginia bar.
